My stay at Hotel Ra Kuun was relaxing with some great highlights, but there were definitely a few drawbacks. The spacious Japanese-style room offered an amazing lake view, and the onsen was a fantastic way to unwind after a day of exploring. However, the remote location was a real challenge, making it quite inconvenient for dining options.

My room was clean, spacious, and offered a lovely view of the lake. I went for the traditional Japanese room, which was definitely larger than comparable options in similar price ranges. The room had all the basic amenities, including a mini-refrigerator and fresh towels.
Service

The staff were super friendly and accommodating. They helped me with bus instructions and were always polite. I really appreciated their willingness to store my luggage before check-in.
Location

The hotel's location was quite remote, about a 30-minute walk to the nearest restaurants or stores in Motohakone. I struggled with the lack of nearby dining options, especially since the buses stopped running by 8pm.
Dining
6.0
Breakfast had both Western and Japanese options, which was nice, but I found most of the food to be cold. Also, since there are no restaurants in the hotel, it made things difficult for dinner, particularly on weeknights.

The onsen area was well-maintained and a great spot to relax. I loved the outdoor onsen, although the hours for access were limited. The vintage vibe of the building added to the charm, though it could use some modernization in places.

I had a nice stay at Hotel Ra Kuun. The traditional Japanese room was spacious and clean, providing a calming escape from the chaos of Tokyo. However, the location was quite remote, making it challenging to find dining options nearby, especially on a weeknight. Overall, it’s a great place if you’re okay with being a bit secluded and want to enjoy the onsen experience.

The Japanese-style room was very spacious compared to other hotels I've stayed in Japan, and it was well-maintained and clean. Yet, it lacked a view.

The staff were friendly and accommodating, providing great support and assistance, which made for a pleasant experience.
Location

The hotel is in a remote location, about a 30-minute walk to the nearest convenience store or restaurant. This might not be ideal for everyone, especially since the walk is mostly uphill on the return.
Dining

Breakfast was delicious, offering both Western and Japanese options, but the dinner situation was less than ideal due to the lack of nearby restaurants.

The onsen was a nice touch and perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring, although it had limited hours.

I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Ra Kuun, especially the spacious and clean room with a lovely view. However, the location was a bit challenging without a car, and I found the food options lacking, especially for dinner. The onsen was a highlight, but the accessibility could have been better.

My room was much larger than many others I've stayed in Japan, which was a pleasant surprise. I opted for a traditional Japanese-style room with a tatami mat, and it really added to my experience, although the bathroom could use some modernization.
Service

The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. They helped me with bus instructions and allowed me to leave my luggage early, which made my stay much smoother.
Location

While the hotel is situated in a serene and quiet area with beautiful views, it's quite a trek from the nearest bus stop, and there aren't any stores nearby. I would recommend preparing before arriving if you plan to dine out.
Dining

Breakfast offered a good mix of Western and Japanese options, but I found the dinner buffet lacking in variety and often served cold food. It wasn't the best culinary experience.

The onsen was a highlight for me; especially the outdoor one which was lovely after a day out. However, it is small and had limited access hours.

My stay at Hotel Ra Kuun was a mixed bag. The traditional Japanese room was spacious and allowed me to experience a different kind of accommodation. However, the location was a significant downside, as it was quite far from dining options and the nearest bus stop. I appreciated the onsen facilities, but overall, the hotel felt quite remote. 🌄

I loved the spacious Japanese-style room, which was much larger than typical accommodations at this price point. The cleanliness was also commendable.

The hotel is situated quite far from the nearest bus stop, which made it challenging to navigate, especially with luggage. It’s also about a 30-minute walk to the nearest restaurants or stores.

Breakfast options were varied, including both Western and Japanese dishes, but overall, the food did not meet my expectations. Dinner was also not provided on-site, requiring travel to find meals.

My stay at Hotel Ra Kuun was a mix of pleasant experiences and a few drawbacks. The spacious rooms were clean and offered a lovely lake view, and the onsen was a nice way to relax after a day of exploring. However, the location is a bit remote, making it challenging to find nearby dining options, especially on weeknights.

I opted for a Traditional Japanese room, which was impressively large compared to places I've stayed in Japan. The room was clean, and the futons were comfortable, giving me a true taste of Japanese hospitality. However, the bathroom felt a bit outdated.
Service

The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. They even changed my booking without any hassle, which I appreciated. They were always polite and helped me with bus instructions when needed.
Location

While the hotel felt like a serene escape from the hustle of Tokyo, its location posed some challenges. It was quite a trek from the nearest bus stop and dining options were limited, especially at night. A walk down to Lake Ashi was enjoyable, but the uphill return was tiring.
Dining

Breakfast offered a good mix of Western and Japanese options, which I enjoyed. However, I did have an issue with booking breakfast on my first morning. Dining options outside of the hotel are scarce, particularly on weeknights.
Facilities

The onsen was a lovely addition, fitting the rustic charm of the hotel. Although it was on the smaller side and had limited hours, bathing there was still a nice experience. Some areas felt a bit dated, but it was generally well-maintained.
